Emergency measures will have to be taken to revive industry and revive the economy, says Rawalpindi Chamber President
Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce President Saboor Malik has said that the aid package for small businesses and jobs from the Ministry of Commerce is welcome. Postponing utility bills was a long standing demand of the chamber. The Chamber's proposal to increase the sales tax rate to five per cent to increase consumption of essential commodities should be implemented immediately. Emergency measures will have to be taken to revive the industry and revive the economy. Such receipts must be deferred.
He further said that with regard to the SBP scheme, the chamber has also suggested zero interest rate on loans for payment of salaries to the employees and waiver of mark-up on already issued loans and repayment of loans. The President said that strict implementation of SOPs is required to make smart lockdown effective.
All sectors are interconnected. A long-term policy will have to be adopted as the losses of the krona will have a profound effect on the national economy. The Chamber President added that a safe environment must be provided for the resumption of business activities.
