Commissioner Karachi Iftikhar Shalawani has directed the Deputy Commissioners of all the districts to intensify the campaign for availability of food items at government rates during the month of Ramadan, to ensure that food items are available to the people at government rates during the month of Ramadan. He asked all the deputy commissioners to take action against illegal profiteers without any concessions.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioners have informed the Commissioner Karachi that the concerned magistrates in their districts are taking action against the illicit profiteers, who are themselves monitoring the ongoing campaign for price control. Additional Deputy Commissioners, Assistant Commissioners and Authorities have been deployed for price control in all the districts.
At the direction of Commissioner Karachi, the officers of Commissioner Karachi including Additional Commissioner 2, Dr. Waqas Roshan Sheikh and Assistant Commissioner Headquarters Syeda Fatima also visited different areas and checked the prices along with Assistant Commissioner Landhi Muhammad Asim Abbasi and enforced the official rates. After reviewing the situation, the concerned magistrate took action on the occasion and imposed fines against various illegitimate profiteers. He checked the prices at Dudu General Stores during his visit to Babar Market and imposed a fine of Rs 8,000 for selling groceries including pulses, sugar and basin at excessive prices while Rs 2,000 was imposed on two vegetable sellers at Babar Market itself. A fine was imposed. They were selling onions and tomatoes at exorbitant prices. A pepper seller was fined Rs 1,000 while Grace Supermarket was fined Rs 10,000 for violating government rates on flour, sugar and pulses, while Javed Dairy was fined Rs 10,000 for selling milk at high prices.
