Prime Minister Imran Khan has directed that in the current situation, the export of all food items used by the common man should be banned. In the first phase, a relief package of Rs. Aid allocation was also approved.
Medical personnel who were martyred while dealing with Corona will be given a package in the style of martyrs package. The package will also be applicable in Islamabad, Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan. The cabinet extended the submission of a report by three weeks at the request of the Commission of Inquiry into the rise in sugar prices. A meeting of the federal cabinet was held on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Imran Khan.
The meeting ratified the decisions of the Economic Co-ordination Committee meetings to be held on April 22 and 27. The Prime Minister directed that in view of the current situation, the export of all food items used by the common man should be banned. This decision should be reviewed after two weeks. Approving a relief package of Rs. 75 billion for the workers in the first phase, the Prime Minister directed the Special Assistant for Social Welfare and the Minister for Industry to formulate a comprehensive strategy for providing relief to the workers.
The Cabinet also endorsed the recommendations of the April 27 meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Legislative Cases (CCLC). The Finance Adviser briefed the Cabinet on the progress made on the affairs of the Competition Commission of Pakistan. The Cabinet approved the appointment of Shaista Bano Gilani as Acting Chairperson of the Competition Commission of Pakistan. The Cabinet approved in principle the Netting of Financial Contracts Bill 2020, which aims to eliminate any uncertainty over the implementation of netting rights.
Once this law is enacted, the issue will be resolved once and for all based on the presence of netting arrangements. The Cabinet approved the proposal that all companies supplying electricity and gas or companies distributing gas or transmission lines would be members of the credit bureau. The Cabinet approved the allocation of grant-in-aid to the federal government for journalists and journalism organizations, especially press clubs, while the Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting and the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Information and Broadcasting were given SOPs and procedures. Was tasked with finalizing which would identify deserving journalists and journalistic organizations.
The Cabinet approved the reconstitution of the Board of Directors of Pak Arab Refinery Limited and the inclusion of Aftab Hussain (Sindh), Abdul Hadi Shah (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa) and Bushra Naz Malik from Punjab as members of the Board. The Cabinet also approved the nomination of directors for temporary posts on the Board of Directors of Sui Northern Pipeline Limited, Pakistan Petroleum Limited, Pakistan Mineral Development Corporation and OGRA.
The Cabinet approved a package of aid for health workers related to Code 19. Any health worker who dies while on duty in Corona will be entitled to the same package as government servants in security-related deaths under the Martyrs' Package. This package will be applicable in Islamabad area, Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.
The Cabinet also approved a request for a three-week extension in the submission of the report of the Commission of Inquiry into the rise in sugar prices. The Cabinet also approved the procedure for export of the malaria drug chloroquine. Speaking on the occasion, Prime Minister Imran Khan said that the government has planned to offer government lands in major cities to overseas Pakistanis in order to generate the required financial resources.
The Prime Minister directed all the Ministers to expedite the formation of think tanks comprising of experts and professionals in the respective fields to improve the overall performance of the concerned Ministries. Dr. Zafar Mirza, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Health, briefed the Cabinet on the situation of Corona virus in the country.
